Utter dominance

Lead Summary

For 364 days, New Hampton/Turkey Valley senior Areon Day lived with the disappointment of the 2017 Class 2A sectional tournament.
And he reminded himself of that bitterly frustrating day this past week by hanging his third-place sectional medal on his locker.
“I never ever ever wanted to feel like that again,” Day said. “That was my motivation.”
Well, it worked wonders as Day had himself a banner sectional tournament Saturday, pinning his way to an individual title and joining 11 of his teammates as district qualifiers on a day when New Hampton/Turkey Valley utterly dominated the field.
The Chickasaws piled up 289 team points to beat runner-up Charles City by a whopping 118.5 points as they qualified for the regional dual tournament for a fourth consecutive season.
The top-ranked and defending state dual-meet champions will now wrestle at home tonight [Tuesday] to get back to the state duals, but Saturday was about getting as many individuals through to this upcoming weekend’s district tournament.
