Trojans run well but hoping for better health

Lead Summary

While Turkey Valley’s cross country team sent one more runner onto the course when the Trojans competed at Starmont Tuesday, some of the athletes were running at less-than-optimal health.
Still, a number of times came down in the meet that featured 1A through 3A runners.
Overall, there were 133 girls that ran the varsity race, and Turkey Valley’s Jalyssa Blazek finished sixth overall with a 20:28, which was her season best by 20 seconds. But after the race the results were broken down to 1A results and 2A/3A results. With the bigger schools out of the mix Blazek was second with her time.
Jaycie Byrne was 51st overall and 21st among 1A schools. “Jaycie has a muscle that is causing her some discomfort when she runs,” said coach Sarah Bakula. “So that played a factor in her time.”
Byrne’s not the only one with issues. Varsity runner Isaac Franzen is still out after sustaining a cut to his knee in a farming injury. His status is “day by day.”
