Trojans post district victory
as soaked with sweat after Turkey Valley’s 54-7 win over Springville Friday night, he said the heat — the temperature was around 80 at the start of the game, and of course, there’s the humidity — didn’t bother him.
“No, you get that adrenaline pumping and you don’t even notice it,” he said after what he admitted was the best game of his career.
When a bad Springville snap caused a fumble, Reicks was there to recover the ball before the quarterback was. That led to a touchdown and when Reicks sacked the quarterback on a fourth-and-four, that led to another score.
“When we watch game films, we knew when No. 9 was in there they were going to throw and when No. 23 was in they were going to run,” Reicks said.
Springville’s No. 9 was Kyle Koppes, who came into the game with 450 yards passing in four games, while No. 23, Spencer DeMean, had 323 yards rushing. The Trojan defense limited Koppes to 82 yards passing and DeMean had 83 yards.
“Carter had a good game from his nose guard position,” said coach Mark Scott. “Defensively we bent but did not break, allowing Springville only to get into the endzone once late in the fourth quarter.”
The first quarter started out slowly as the teams exchanged punts. Turkey Valley’s Kannon Leuenberger recovered a fumble after his hit on a Springville runner but the Trojans couldn’t capitalize on the situation.
