New Hampton takes long run
The good news is the folks who run the Osage Invitational cross country meet removed the most dangerous part of the course — a rocky hill that had “ankle sprain” written all over it.
The bad news is they didn’t measure the new course correctly, so as runners made their way into the finish-line chute, they were more than a little disappointed with their times.
“Kids get stuck on times,” New Hampton coach Jamie Ohrt said, “and so they were disappointed when they saw them, but what they didn’t know is that the course was actually 3.3 [miles] instead of 3.1 so all in all, I was pretty happy with the way they ran.”
In the team standings, the girls finished seventh while the boys were eighth in the 14-team field. Mason City Newman won the boys team title while Crestwood claimed the girls team crown.
The Chickasaws, meanwhile, were led by three top-20 finishers as Olivia Burke took 14th and Lydia Gessner finished 19th in the girls race while Nolan Usher ran to an 11th-place finish in the boys competition.
