N-P endures tough week on court, remains winless

Nashua-Plainfield’s volleyball team knew the challenge presented by its first Saturday tournament was going to be, in a word, brutal.
It was, and while the Huskies remained winless on the season after dropping five matches at the Aplington-Parkersburg Invitational, coach Amber McCall believes her young team will be the better for it down the proverbial road.
“The AP tournament is tough, but also gives us great experience,” McCall said. “Experience, experience, experience. I feel that playing these teams at these tournaments is such a great opportunity because one, we get to see what we need to continue to work on, and two,  we get to visually watch these teams. I feel that we learn so much by playing these teams and the high competition like this.”
And trust us, it was high competition.
Every team Nashua-Plainfield played Saturday came in with a winning record. One of them, Grundy Center, is unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in Class 2A. Another, West Delaware is ranked 11th in Class 4A.
In some ways, the result — five straight-set losses — was predictable, but McCall appreciated her team’s effort, especially after a lackluster performance against Top of Iowa Conference East Division foe Central Springs earlier in the week.
