Huskies fall in district opener

Maybe first-year head football coaches are jinxed at Nashua-Plainfield; after all, in 2015, Chase Sudol went through an injury-plagued debut season, and the same thing is happening to Nick Lamphier this year.
“It’s been a struggle, and I guess the best thing you can say is our young guys are getting a lot of experience,” Lamphier said after his team fell 41-0 to Mason City Newman last Friday and fell to 0-3 on the season. “We’ve just been devastated with injuries, and it’s obviously showed. We knew we were inexperienced coming into the year, but it’s at a whole new level now with the injuries.”
How bad has it been this year?
The Huskies lost one player to a rolled ankle during a “75 percent jog” during a pre-practice warmup on the track, and on Friday, three of the original five starting offensive lineman were on the sidelines in street clothes.
Still, despite the lopsided final score, Lamphier found some positives Friday against the Knights in the Class A, District 4 opener for both teams.
The Huskies were competitive in the first half and trailed just 14-0 before Newman completed a “Hail Mary” pass for a touchdown with five seconds remaining to take a commanding three touchdown lead into the locker room.
