Digging out another W

Anyone looking at volleyball statistics will notice New Hampton’s name. The Chickasaws are third in Class 3A with 467 kills and they’re second with 138 aces, or 3.14 per set. Their 411 assists ranks third in the class, so does 46 solo blocks.
But, echoing what her coach Jess Geerts said last week, Kerigan Tenge is fine with the fact the team isn’t ranked.
“I’d rather come up from underneath than be noticed,” she said after a three-set win over conference rival Crestwood Tuesday.
And even though the girls went to 17-0 with the win and are playing with confidence, cocky they’re not.
“Even with our record, our entire team knew we couldn’t underestimate a team like Crestwood,” said Tenge. “The same will go for when we play Decorah.”
The Cadets came into the night with a 4-6 record. 
Two consecutive kills by Tenge in set one gave the Chickasaws a 16-9 lead and when Rachel Rinken went to the serving line, the Chickasaws were up 18-11. By the time Rinken was done the NH girls played a 5-0 run, which included two Rinken aces, and the Chickasaws would record a 25-14 win.
