Chickasaws third at state wrestling meet
The good news is that New Hampton/Turkey Valley’s Michael Blockhus will wrestle for a third individual state title on Saturday night. The bad news? It was an up-and-down day for the Chickasaws at the Class 2A traditional state tournament, and NH/TV will need the stars to almost perfectly align if they want to add the traditional state title trophy to the dual state-meet championship it won on Wednesday.Blockhus, who won the 106-pound title as a freshman wrestling for Crestwood and claimed the 126-pound title as a Chickasaw junior last year, rolled into his fourth-straight state tournament finals with a 5-2 quarterfinal decision over Sergeant Bluff-Lutton’s Easton Graff in the morning quarterfinal round and a third-period pin of Independence’s Matthew Doyle in the afternoon semifinal round. He will wrestle Jarrett Miller of Ballard in the finals on Saturday. But the rest of the quarterfinal round was a struggle for the Chickasaws as Noah Fye (145), Cale Reicks (160), Evan Rosonke (182) and Areon Day (220) all lost.Fye and 17o-pound Noah Glaser both won two consolation matches on Friday and could still finish as high as third while Day and Rosonke both went 1-1 in consolation matches and will wrestle for seventh during the day session on Saturday.Dubuque Wahlert leads the team standings with 79 points, and the Golden Eagles have three wrestlers in the finals and a fourth wrestling on the “back side” of the bracket. South Tama is second with 60 points, one more than NH/TV, and has two in the finals, one wrestling in the consolation semifinals and two going for seventh place.Complete state tournament results for the Chickasaws are as follows:• 120: Champ.
