Chickasaws and Trojans finally get chance to run

Lead Summary

Ask New Hampton cross country coach Jamie Ohrt and her Turkey Valley counterpart, Sarah Bakula, about settling into a routine this season, and they both pretty much have the same answer.
What routine?
The number of meets postponed or cancelled for both schools outnumbers the number of meets that have actually taken place, but on Monday, both coaches found plenty to like at the Waukon Invitational, which was originally supposed to be held last week but was moved to Monday after heavy rains left the Waukon course more than a little waterlogged.
“We needed a meet just because practice can take you only so far,” Bakula said. “It’s hard to spend two weeks without racing, and it gets hard on the kids. They want to run in meets, and I get that.”
New Hampton got a strong fourth-place finish from Nolan Usher as the Chickasaws finished fourth in the team race while Turkey Valley, led by a second-place finish from Jalyssa Blazek in the girls race, had all seven of its runners post season-best times.
Times from both teams may be found in the Sept. 28 Tribune.
