Carl Decker, age 81 of Elma, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Accura Care Center in Cresco.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista. 
Burial was held at the First Lutheran Cemetery, Ossian.  
Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
 Carl J. Decker was born on Oct. 5, 1936, to Louie and Rose (Koester) Decker in Howard County. 
Carl grew up in the Lime Springs area and quit school after eighth grade to farm with his dad.  
On Oct. 26, 1958, Carl married Marie Oakland in Austin, Minn. 
He continued to farm throughout his life in areas of Tripoli, Alta Vista, Cresco and Jerico.  
After retiring from farming, he worked for Dale Reicks at Reicks View Farms. 
He also helped Roger Reicks, who became a close friend that helped Carl though the loss of his beloved wife, Marie.  
He enjoyed playing pool, attending tractor pulls, polka music, gardening, and eating homemade ice cream. He had a large collection of Allis Chalmers toy tractors. 
One of Carl’s greatest joys in life was dancing. Carl would always say, “I’d rather dance than eat!” He liked traveling with his friend, Roger Reicks. 
Carl loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Lorraine (Larry) Mullen of Charles City, and their children Adam Howland of Mason City, Jessica (Nikki) Hanke of Ladora, and Jenifer (Chad) Olsen of Austin, Minn., and Lynn (Joe) Rose of Cresco, and their children Brandon (Michelle) Sickles of Altona, Manitoba, Bryan Sickles of Cresco, and Kennedy Rose of Cresco; his great-granddaughter, Ava Howland, sisters, Betty Roesler of Lime Springs, Luella (Curt) Postel of Florida, and Arlene (Jerry) Sjullie of Cedar Rapids; and brothers Donald Decker of Texas, and Louie (special friend Irma) Decker Jr. of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie on Jan. 11, 2013; a son, Randy; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Roesler.
