And then there were five

Lead Summary

After winning their first set against Decorah by a 25-9 score Tuesday, the Chickasaw girls were up 17-4 in the second set.
“Our intensity went down a little at that time,” said New Hampton junior Rachel Rinken. “But other than that we played pretty well.”
Although Decorah did come back and scored a few more points in that second set, the Chickasaws still won 25-16 and swept the Vikings with a final 25-15 win.
The list of unbeaten teams among all classes in the state is now down to five, and the Chickasaws, at 18-0 and ranked 11th in the state, have targets on their backs.
“Everyone was wondering why we weren’t in the rankings and we finally showed up,” said Rinken. “But I have mixed emotions about that. I’m afraid it might get in our heads and affect the way we play. Not many teams have an 18-0 record so we just have to play our hardest every game.”
Since it was just a three-set match, the numbers weren’t high for the Chickasaws. Lauren Frerichs added 20 assists to her season total, while Maddi Moorman and Rinken tied with six kills each; Rinken added three solo blocks and an 18-for-19 serving effort with a season-high six aces.
