Huskies coach misses first meet, but N-P boys shine without him

The outdoor opener for Nashua-Plainfield’s boys track team was scheduled to be run on March 26, but this pesky thing called winter got in the way.And it stayed in the way through three more cancellations, but finally, the Huskies got a chance to compete outdoors last Thursday, and then they had to do it without their head coach.But Chase Sudol had good reason for being absent.Earlier that day, his wife, Olivia, gave birth to the couple’s third child, a healthy boy named Zander.So he spent Thursday at the hospital while his team competed at the New Hampton Coed Invitational; still, he liked what he saw in the results.“I was fairly pleased,” he said. “I would have loved to be there, but obviously, I had something a little more important to do that day. I know the guys understood, and I’m just glad they got a chance to run.”Although the Huskies finished seventh in the nine-team meet, they showed the promise that Sudol has spent much of the spring talking about.Ike Sinnwell, Austin Bienemann, Issac Chambers and Luke Cerwinske finished second in the 4x800 while Levi Enright to Tristin Brase to Nathan Dettmer to Dayton Hansen, who had the Huskies’ highest individual place with a third-place showing in the 1,600, finished in the same place in the distance medley.And the Huskies had three fourth-place finishes — Evan Kalainoff in the 400, Cerwinske in the high jump and Nathan Dettmer, Tristen Brase, Levi Enright and Kalainoff in the sprint medley — in a meet that was made up of mostly Class 3A and 2A teams.
