Donald Bernard Boeding age 85 of New Hampton, IA, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. Placing of the pall will be by Arlene along with Don's children. Musicians will be the Lau Family. Lectors for the service are Pat Junko, Connie Potts, and Chris Junko. Ashley Boeding and Megan Fitzgerald will present the offertory gifts.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with military rites by the New Hampton American Legion Post #38. Pallbearers will be Chris Junko, Greg Junko, Dustin Boeding, Matt Sedivec, Mike Potts, Garrett Boeding, Brock Boeding, Drew Boeding, Ben Thiemann, Mitch Thiemann, and Nick Thiemann. Honorary pallbearers will be Becca Kirk, Laura Junko, Michele Stephens, Stephanie Sedivec, Kristin Shaver, Caroline Wald, Cara Holub, Kiley Boeding, Ashley Boeding, Lindsey Sainsbury, Jenna Fitzgerald, Megan Fitzgerald, Karly Fitzgerald and Michaela Fitzgerald.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 7:30 p.m. parish scripture service. Donald Bernard Boeding was born in rural Waucoma, Iowa on the family farm, April 16, 1933, to Bernard and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Boeding. He attended rural school through the eighth grade.On November 4, 1953, Don was inducted into United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict, until being honorably discharged.
At a dance at the American Legion Hall in Lawler, Don met his future wife Arlene Ries of North Washington. On October 12, 1953, the couple was married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington. To this union four daughters and three sons were born.
Don worked a few years on a farm west of Lawler. In 1955, he and Arlene bought their home farm north of New Hampton. He also was Regional Director and Corporate Level Director for Associated Milk Producers and was a Farm Bureau member and former Director. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton.
Don grew up enjoying life in the country. In their younger years, Don and Arlene enjoyed going to dances. He liked country music, westerns, hunting, and checking the progress of crops in the fields. Don and Arlene also loved to travel and made trips to Italy, New Zealand, Hawaii, New York, Holland, and Germany. He also loved hunting in Wyoming and fishing in Tennessee. Don always looked forward to visits from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Arlene; his children, Patricia (Tom) Junko of Lawler, Ken (Sandy) Boeding of New Hampton, Connie (David) Potts of Hugo, Minnesota, Lynn (Dee) Boeding of New Hampton, David (Barb) Boeding of New Hampton, Kay (Roger) Thiemann of Fruit Cove, Florida, and Diane (Tom) Fitzgerald of New Hampton; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with another due in November; one sister, Marian Rouchka; many nieces and nephews; many special friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Elizabeth Boeding; sister, Alice Papenheim; brothers in law, Chester Rouchka and Gene Papenheim.
