Dominating debut

The final scores were dazzling — downright dominant to be honest — but that wasn’t what impressed New Hampton wrestling coach Nick Hemann the most Tuesday night.  “I was happy with the effort, and I really loved the fight,” Hemann said after his team routed Independence 65-9 and blanked Waterloo Columbus 82-0 on the opening night of the 2016-17 season. “Our guys — from the JV to the varsity — go hard and fight. That’s what we’ve got to have.”  New Hampton came into the night with Class 2A’s No. 1 ranking, and the Chickasaws more than lived up to the billing.  Max Babcock at 126, Noah Fye at 132, Keaton Geerts at 138 and Keegan Tenge at 145 all recorded pins as New Hampton raced out to a 24-0 lead over Independence.  “You could tell we were ready to wrestle someone besides ourselves,” Hemann said. “They got after it right from the start.”  For all of the Chickasaw results, please turn to the Dec. 2 Tribune.
