Area runners run through the mud

New Hampton seniors Alexis and Adrian Rings didn’t mind that the cross country meet, for a short distance, turned into a mud run Saturday at Luther College.
Even thought the area went a whopping two days without precipitation, a stream crossing the course was still running, causing slippery conditions, and the runners had to cross it twice. 
“I kind of enjoyed it honestly,” said Alexis Rings. “I was looking forward to crossing it. I try and do the mud run in Nashua every year, it’s fun.”
While it was just a short stretch, some of the times were longer for both the Chickasaws and Turkey Valley in a meet that started with middle school runners and ended at the college level.
But a couple of the times were better as both New Hampton and Turkey Valley were running in their second meets of the season.
“Due to the scenery, challenging hills and steep competition, the Luther course has always been one of my favorite meets,” Chickasaw coach Jamie Ohrt said. “However, I’m not sure the runners would agree with me because those hills can seem daunting, especially for a young athlete.”
