The ball caught, as we who wear the blue like to say, “the black” of the plate, and I made my strike call.

Kaden Wilken stepped out of the box, gave me that mischievous smile and said, “Sure about that Bob?”

There’s a part of me that hopes I wake up Friday morning and realize that the last few weeks have just been a really bad dream.

Jayden Rinken’s already proven he’s one of the better wrestlers in the entire state of Iowa. 

The date was Aug. 18, 2010. It was a cool but muggy Wednesday morning as hundreds of New Hampton Elementary School students — many with their parents in tow — headed to the old building on Main and Linn to start another school year.

One of our favorite games to play when it comes to my youngest son’s dog, Millie, is to see how fast she can go from relaxing, maybe even snoozing, to the window.

IT'S A MEMORY forever seared into my mind.

I didn’t know Adam Larson from Adam before Monday night.

My guess is I’ll probably never meet the young man, but on one of the worst days of my life, the software engineer perfectly described my favorite aunt.

Paul Hassman and I sat next to each other near the scorer’s bench in New Hampton’s old high school gymnasium on a January night back in 2013.

It was one of those moments that make this job so much fun at times.
