Mavis A. Lang dies at 95
Mavis A. Lang, age 95 of New Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colo.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Burial will be held at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton.Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. Online condolences for Mavis's family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family.Mavis Arleen (Mamie) was born on Nov. 16, 1921 in Mount Sterling, Wisc. The eldest daughter of Attley and Millie Attleson. Mavis graduated from high school in Gays Mills, Wisc. She moved to Chicago, where she worked in a defense factory (Union Special)where she was a machinist building the bomb sights for the Army Air Corps B-25 Mitchell during WWII. On Aug. 28, 1943 she married Frederick Jacob Lang (Fritz) in Chicago. After Fritz returned from WWII, they moved to New Hampton. Mavis worked at JC Penny’s in the 50’s and 60’s and then worked as a school cook in the New Hampton Schools. Mavis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1952 and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. What she enjoyed most were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always ready to share a stick of gum. “Gummy” will always be remembered for her kind heart. She is survived by her three children: Carol Stobbelaar of Centennial, Colo; Darrel Lang of Emporia, KS and Steven (Julie) Lang of New Hampton. Seven grandchildren: Matt Lang of Vail, Colo; Michelle (Kevin) Pringle of Admire, KS; David (Carla) Stobbelaar of Lilongwe, Malawi South Africa; Susan (Bill) Lorimor of Denver, Colo; Alec Lang of Iowa City; Kaymi Lang of Rochester, Minn; and Paige Lang of Indianola. Five great grandchildren: John, Taylor and Sarah Beth Pringle, Jeremy and Delaney Lorimor; sister Hazel Hereid of New Hampton; brother-in-law Roger Johnson of New Hampton; sister-in-law Irene Attleson of Minneapolis, Minn; daughter-in-law LaDell Lang of Emporia, KS and many nieces and nephews.Mavis was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, her brothers; Percival, Stanley, Orland Luther Attleson and her sister Thelma Johnson.
