Turkey Valley girls fall to Springville in 1-2 battle

Lead Summary

It looked like Turkey Valley might keep their streak going in the first half of a battle against Springville Saturday night. Although each team had knocked down a half-dozen baskets before intermission, the second-ranked Lady Trojans held a 20-13 lead against the top-ranked Orioles.  Springville had been held to only two points in the second quarter, but they returned the favor, stifling Turkey Valley in the third quarter for only one point.  The Orioles went on to win the fourth quarter 13-6, and the game 40-27.  That ends not only an undefeated season for Turkey Valley, but a string of 50 regular season wins that date back to 2014. When the TV girls lost on Dec. 6 that year to Decorah, they would not lose a regular season game again until Saturday.  “Great effort, great measuring stick, we just couldn't put the ball in the basket in the second half,” co-coach Dan Stepan said. “We will get that fixed, excited for the rest of the season.”  The rest of the story may be found in the Jan. 10 Tribune.
