Trojans roll to win, wrap up district title

Lead Summary

On the north end of the Turkey Valley football complex — by the scoreboard — there’s a sign with 15 different years written on it, representing the 15 years the Trojans have made it to the playoffs.
Jason Herold pointed to that sign after the Trojans made it 16 on Friday.
“It’s kind of nice, my dad is on that sign in ’88, now I’ll be on it in ’18,” the senior said after the 60-8 win over Central Elkader. “And it’s nice to be back to the playoffs. We took a break last year, but this year, I just don’t want it to end.”
Herold was one of three senior football players honored before the start of the game, and what a start it was. With 9:54 left in the second quarter, the continuous clock was running, as the Trojans were up 38-0. The win gave Turkey Valley a share of the district title, along with Central City and Midland Wyoming.
“This isn’t the big focus,” Herold said of the win. “Still, we didn’t want to overlook them so we came out ready to play.”
