Slowly but surely

Nashua-Plainfield may not have the power teams it put on the wrestling mat in the 2000s and early part of this decade, but the young Huskies are definitely making progress.  Take last week, for example.  Nashua-Plainfield went 3-2 in duals over the course of two nights and then finished a solid seventh at a very competitive Tripoli Invitational.  “It’s tough because we’re sending a lot of freshmen and sophomores out there, but they’re hanging in there,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Al Frost said. “We’re definitely seeing some guys turn the corner.”  Take sophomore Dylan Downing, who won his final two matches at the Battle of Waterloo and then went unbeaten in last week’s duals. Throw in an opening round win at Tripoli, and Downing had fashioned an eight-match winning streak.  “He’s had the attitude and the right mental toughness,” Frost said of Downing, who moved down to 138 for the first time this season on Saturday. “He’s gone out there and really competed, and you know, that’s what this year has to be all about for our guys.  Complete results for the N-P wrestlers may be found in the Jan. 12 Reporter.
