Second-ranked Turkey Valley girls win by 20
Morgen Kuennen’s face lit up when she talked about her foul total. “I only had one! Or maybe two [it was one]. I think we moved our feet better, we had some good practices over break and I think we’re faster now. We pushed the ball harder tonight.” No rust to shake off here. The Turkey Valley girls — led by Kuennen’s 18 points — rolled past Edgewood-Colesburg 58-38 to start the new year. “I honestly didn’t realize I was scoring as many points as I was,” said the Turkey Valley senior after tying her season high. “I was getting some good passes fed to me. Shelby [Reicks] finds me and I don’t even know I’m open half the time.” It was a good plan. “We tried to get the ball into Morgen and we executed perfectly,” co-coach Dan Stepan said. “We got some open shots and knocked down a bunch tonight. Morgen has been a senior leader and sometimes she could score more. We tell her to attack the ball, she kicks it out at times.” Turkey Valley led 17-4 at the end of the first period, only allowing the Vikings nine points in the first half. “We shot them down, we played really good defense, our upcourt pressure was good and we didn’t really let them drive,” noted the coach.
