The November election may be almost six weeks away, but those who have made up their minds can begin casting ballots today [Thursday] at the Chickasaw County Courthouse in New Hampton.County Auditor Joan Knoll announced Monday that “early voting” would commence today, and voters can cast ballots during regular business hours — 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays — at the Auditor’s Office.Knoll also announced “important dates” during the election cycle, and they include:• Saturday, Oct. 29, is the final day voters can pre-register for the Nov. 8 election and the Auditor’s Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.• Friday, Nov. 4, is the deadline to request an absentee ballot.• On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Auditor’s Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for voters who would like to cast early ballots.• Monday, Nov. 7, is the final day voters can vote at the Auditor’s Office, which will remain open until 5 p.m. that day.• Tuesday, Nov. 8, is Election Day, and polls throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.Those who have questions about voting can call the Auditor’s Office at 641-394-2100.
