Patricia Louise Gilbert was born June 29, 1950, in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Charles and Melba (Attleson) Gilbert. She attended school in New Hampton and was a 1968 graduate of New Hampton High School. Pat then attended school for a brief period at UNI. She moved to Des Moines and took a telephone operator position with the Bell Telephone company in 1970, which later became AT&T. She spent 33 years with the company working in the Des Moines, IA, Rockford, IL, and Kansas City, MO offices.
In 2000, she moved home to New Hampton to be closer to her mom and family. While living in New Hampton, she worked for Ross Marketing and then at CBE in Waterloo until her retirement.
Pat was an avid reader and especially loved the Harry Potter series. She enjoyed anything written by authors Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb. While living in Des Moines, she was an active member of the AT&T Clown Group and would go around putting smiles on children's faces. She also wrote and published an internal newspaper for the entire company while working at AT&T.
Pat loved new recipes, especially desserts that she would try out with family and friends. Compiling the Make a Wish cookbook was one of her proudest accomplishments. In her later years, coloring was a passion of hers. While at the nursing home, she proudly decorated her wing monthly.
Pat is survived by four sisters, Kris Meyer of New Hampton, IA, Debra Gilbert of New Hampton, IA, Michelle (Tom) Paulsen of Sioux City, IA, Julie (Steve) Tjepkes of Atlantic, IA; four nieces, Rachel (Matt) Ysbrand, Jennifer Meyer, Marissa Paulsen, Leah Tjepkes; three nephews, Derek Tjepkes, Drew Paulsen, and Alex Paulsen.
