NH/TV picks up valuable experience

Don’t let the 14th-place finish in the team standings fool you; New Hampton/Turkey Valley coach Nick Hemann got what he wanted out of Independence’s Cliff Keen Invitational this weekend.
“It went good, it went really good,” Hemann said after the two-day, 33-team tournament. “It’s one of the best — maybe the best — [individual] tournament in the state and we still don’t have everyone where they’re going to be so, yeah, we’re fine.”
His message to the Chickasaws is simple: Learn and move on.
“No one’s going to remember the Independence tournament if you do what you want to do in February,” he said, “and the reason we go to tournaments like this is that it exploits our weaknesses, it tells us what we have to work on.”
Christian Brothers College, a high school out of Missouri, won the meet with 299 points while Scott West of Minnesota took second with 271.5, 10 1/2 points more than third-place finisher Solon. 
New Hampton/Turkey Valley finished with 196 points and was led by junior Evan Rosonke, the second-ranked 182-pound wrestler who won four matches, three by pin, and took second at 195 pounds. His only loss came to Class 3A’s sixth-ranked Sam Hayes of Fort Madison.
