Memorial Park gets new signage to honor area

Lead Summary

Nashua’s Veteran’s Memorial Park is a place where residents can honor those who served in the military long ago to present day. Wednesday morning VFW members David Carter and Dan Bilharz placed the long awaited signs representing each branch of the military: Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard along with the POW (Prisoner of War) emblem. These signs were created by Cedar River Signs in Charles City who also created the new sign for their building. They have been in the making for a while and with the help of private donations and the Nashua’s Ralph Nicholson VFW Post 6792.VFW Quartermaster Bilharz attended a City Council meeting on June 20 telling the Council his plans since the arborvitae were damaged and he wanted to make a change for the better. Bilharz’s goal was to have the new signs done before Veteran’s Day so everyone could enjoy the addition at the park. Residents will be able to remember each branch of the military, those who have served, the ones who did not make it home and the ones who are currently serving. For the complete story see the 11/17/2016 Nashua Reporter.
