John "Jack" Meissen dies at 82
John "Jack" Meissen age 82 of Lawler, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with Rev. Kyle Digmann celebrating the Mass. Urnbearers will be Laura Pitz and Michelle Meissen. Lector for the service will be Pat Sheridan. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Chris Bruns, Joseph Meissen and Cherokee Pitz. Interment will be in the church cemetery with honorary urnbearers; Wendy Meyers, Melissa Remiker, Linda Benskin, Jay Meissen, Brad Meissen, Brian Meissen, Cindy Kempf, Cleo Ericksen and Ken & Linda Schaufenbuel.Friends may greet the family 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. Online condolences for Jack's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comJohn Joseph “Jack” Meissen was born June 10, 1934, in New Hampton, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hormisch) Meissen. He received his education in Lawler. On May 7, 1960, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, he married Leona Frances Tieskotter. To this union two children were born, Lyn and Kevin. Jack and Leona made Lawler their life-time home where they raised their family. Jack was a janitor for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and worked at Hillendale Farms and Calmer Foods for many years. He also worked for several area farmers including Donny Kurtenbach, Dan Carlin and Stone & Sons farm. Jack helped at the Pub at the Pinicon on a part-time basis enjoying the many people he would meet. In his free time, Jack enjoyed working in his shop, fishing, playing cards with his grandchildren, spending time with his family and friends, watching his grandson work on his race car and attending the races. His grandchildren could count on Jack cheering them on, during all their school events.His wife Leona died on May 26, 2008 at the age of 79. Jack then became a resident of the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Nov. 2, 2013.Survivors include one daughter, Lyn (James Bailey) Bruns of Lawler; one son, Kevin (Denise) Meissen of Blaine, Minn; four grandchildren; Laura (Rusty) Pitz of Lawler, Michelle (Aaron Armstrong) Shafer, Minn., Joseph Meissen of Blaine, Minn. and Chris (Alyssa Thevenot) Bruns of Owatonna, Minn; three great-grandchildren, Kiowa Pitz, Cherokee Pitz and Carol Armstrong; one sister, Sister Emiliana (Mary) Meissen of Dubuque; one sister-in-law, Marian Knutson of New Hampton.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Joseph Meissen and Raymond Meissen; one sister, Rose Klapper; six brothers-in-law, Wilfred Tieskotter, Andrew Tieskotter, Roman Tieskotter, Joseph Tierney, Juel Knutson and Andrew Kruse; seven sisters-in-law, Bernadette Kruse, Elvira “Vera” Tierney, Adella Tieskotter, Bernie Tieskotter, Regina Tieskotter, Barbara Meissen and Virginia Meissen.
