Herbert "Herb" Carpenter age 90 of New Hampton, Iowa, died Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by Herb's children.  Lectors for the service will be Heather Pecinovsky and Gladys Christoph.  Presenting the offertory gifts will be Becky Miller-Sigvertsen and Sheila Constant.  The North Washington Men's Choir will accompany the congregation in song. 
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Washington with Eric Carpenter, Justin Carpenter, Cary Carpenter, Austin Carpenter, Tony Green, Travis Smith, Dustin Smith, Nathan Howard, Nick Howard and Nolan Howard as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Heather Pecinovsky, Alicia Biggerstaff, Kristi Hauser, Kelsey Carpenter and Emma Carpenter. 
Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the church.  Online condolences for Herb's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com
Herbert Ermin Carpenter was born March 28, 1928, on the family farm in rural Nashua, IA, the son of Howard and Anna (Jenn) Carpenter.  He attended rural country school through the 7th grade and completed his education at St. Mary’s Grade School and High School in North Washington.  On September 19, 1950, He was united in marriage to Alice Marie Schwickerath at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington. The couple farmed together, west of North Washington.  Herb and Alice also owned Herb’s Hideaway in Ionia and the Moonshine Tap in North Washington for many years.
Herb loved his fishing trips to Twin Lakes, MN, where the family has been going for over 60 years.  In later years, he loved going to casinos and also enjoyed playing euchre and poker in the area.  Herb often played the harmonica at the many family Carpenter gatherings.
Herb is survived by his seven children;  Ken (Joyce) Carpenter of Rochester, MN, Dennis (Rosemary) Carpenter of North Washington, IA, Duane (Shelia Constant) Carpenter of Fredericksburg, IA, Sharon Carpenter of New Hampton, IA, Donna Smith of Elma, IA, Ron (Darla) Carpenter of North Washington, IA and Joni Carpenter of New Hampton, IA; 17 grandchildren, Eric & Ryan Carpenter; Heather Pecinovsky and Alicia Biggerstaff; Justin, Cary, Austin and Emma Carpenter; Tony Green; Travis, Shaun, Dustin Smith and Kristi Hauser; Kelsey Carpenter; Nathan, Nick and Nolan Howard; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Robert Schwickerath and Cletus (Eleanor) Schwickerath all of New Hampton, IA; one sister-in-law, Bernice Felder of New Hampton and numerous nieces and nephews;
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice on October 6, 2012; twin daughters at birth;  his siblings, Bernice (Louis) Flick, Russell Carpenter, Marlys (Willis) Baldwin, Eleanor (Donald) Rosonke and Jerome Carpenter; Herb's in-laws, Joanna (Elmer) Geerts, Ray Felder and Marlys Schwickerath.
