First Father’s Day is going to be special

Lead Summary

While Father’s Day might look a little different this year, first-time fathers Bruce Ohrt and Justin Adam are heading into the day with nothing but grateful hearts.
Last month the Tribune caught up with their wives, Jamie Ohrt and Jenny Adam, both teachers, to see what the Mother’s Day holiday meant to them as new mothers, especially with so much more time on their hands with their children due to the pandemic.
Now the fathers are weighing in and for the last few months they have had the chance to have even more meaningful memories with their families.
Adam is the high school band director at New Hampton, and school closures sent him home for distance learning back in March, then followed by summer vacation. Ohrt is the owner of Ohrt’s Smokehouse in Ionia, and while they normally open seasonally, the virus has impacted some of his plans as well.
“Our shop is closed during the summer months. We do sell products at trade shows through the summer, but they have been canceled due to COVID-19.”
