Finding positives
Chad Sweitzer didn’t like the score, didn’t like it one bit, Tuesday night. But New Hampton boys basketball coach Chad Sweitzer found some things to like in a 70-39 Northeast Iowa Conference loss to Waverly-Shell Rock. “That was a good, physical basketball game,” Sweitzer said after his team dropped to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the NEIC. “We’re really proud of the effort our guys gave us. I hate losing by 30 or whatever, but I didn’t feel like it was a 30-point game. I still don’t.” The Go-Hawks came into the game unbeaten at 14-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, but New Hampton hung with them for a while at least. After getting off to a slow start to fall behind 29-15, New Hampton used a 6-0 run on two Jake Zwanziger free throws, a Tyler Rentschler steal and basket and a Michael Drewelow inside shot to cut the deficit to eight.
