Finding positives

Lead Summary

Chad Sweitzer didn’t like the score, didn’t like it one bit, Tuesday night.  But New Hampton boys basketball coach Chad Sweitzer found some things to like in a 70-39 Northeast Iowa Conference loss to Waverly-Shell Rock.  “That was a good, physical basketball game,” Sweitzer said after his team dropped to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the NEIC. “We’re really proud of the effort our guys gave us. I hate losing by 30 or whatever, but I didn’t feel like it was a 30-point game. I still don’t.”  The Go-Hawks came into the game unbeaten at 14-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, but New Hampton hung with them for a while at least.  After getting off to a slow start to fall behind 29-15, New Hampton used a 6-0 run on two Jake Zwanziger free throws, a Tyler Rentschler steal and basket and a Michael Drewelow inside shot to cut the deficit to eight. The rest of the story may be found in the Jan. 27 Tribune.
