Coming up short
The frustration in New Hampton boys basketball coach Chad Sweitzer’s voice came through loud and clear on Monday night. His Chickasaws had just put up one heck of a fight against a Clear Lake team that began the season in the Class 2A state rankings only to fall 75-68. “We gave up four points in what, three seconds? And why? Because we didn’t take care of the basketball,” Sweitzer said. “Man, to work that hard to get the lead and then basically give it away, that’s frustrating with a capital F.” Instead of celebrating what could have been a milestone victory, the Chickasaws were left to ask, “What if?” Although Clear Lake led for most of the first three quarters, this was a tight, taut affair, and when Jake Zwanziger hit three 3-pointers in less than 60 seconds, New Hampton had a 52-50 lead with 5:19 left.
