Chickasaws want that elusive NEIC mat title

Lead Summary

To say it’s been a long time since New Hampton won a Northeast Iowa Conference wrestling tournament would be an understatement.  Let’s face it, 2004 was a long time ago; in fact, the seniors on this year’s team were preschoolers the last time New Hampton hoisted the hardware at the NEIC.  So the Chickasaws would like nothing more than to finally end Waverly-Shell Rock’s 12-year run as NEIC champions when the seven conference schools meet in Waukon — beginning at 10 a.m. — to scrap on the mat.  And while there’s no doubt that New Hampton has huge goals this year — the Class 2A top-ranked Chickasaws have their sights set on a couple of state championships — winning the NEIC tournament is definitely on the 2017 bucket list. For the full story, please see the Jan. 27 Tribune.
