Chickasaws split pair of road tilts
Chad Sweitzer didn’t like his New Hampton’s loss to MFL-Mar-Mac on Saturday, but he wasn’t going to lose sleep over it, either. “We’ve got to play better, no doubt about that,” he said after his team lost 86-79 to the Bulldogs, a day after the Chickasaws pulled away from Denver for a 72-56 win. “But you know what? It’s like I told the boys after the game, ‘They don’t hand out any trophies in January.’” The Chickasaws were, in a word, flat Saturday. MFL-Mar-Mac used a 14-2 run to take a 22-12 lead after the first quarter, and if not for three quick 3-pointers from Zach Heying, the Chickasaws would have faced a much worse deficit than 39-25 at halftime. “We fell in love with the 3-point shot in the first half,” Sweitzer said, “and we got away from the ball movement that we have to have to win basketball games.” The rest of the story may be found in the Jan. 24 Tribune.
