Chickasaws end season on high note

Lead Summary

Maybe Dillon Roberson summed up both the 2018 season and Friday night the best.
“It definitely wasn’t the season we thought we’d have,” the New Hampton senior said, “but at least we got tonight.”
And while it wasn’t always pretty, New Hampton found a way to close out a disappointing season with an 8-0 win over Hampton-Dumont.
The Chickasaws came into the season ranked in most preseason polls, but finished the season 3-6 overall and 3-2 in Class 2A, District 3 play, and to be perfectly frank, they weren’t the same team after their playoff hopes were doused on Oct. 5 in a double-overtime loss to Crestwood, the one district team to make the playoffs.
“I’m going to give our boys credit,” New Hampton coach Scott Frerichs said. “They knew their season was going to end, but they played hard and they gave us, I thought, a pretty good effort. The one thing no one can take away from this is they did win their last game.”
New Hampton did it with a three-pronged attack.
The rest of the story may be found in the Oct. 23 Tribune.
