Chickasaws break into state volleyball rankings

Lead Summary

Sooner or later, the folks at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union had to take notice of the New Hampton volleyball team; after all, the Chickasaws are 17-0, have claimed two tournament titles and won 40 of the 44 sets they have played.
And the IGHSAU finally gave New  Hampton its due as the Chickasaws broke into the Class 3A rankings that were released on Thursday.
Coach Jess Geerts’ team that takes a 17-0 record into tonight’s [Tuesday] match at Decorah is now 11th in the rankings. New Hampton is one of only eight teams in the state, regardless of class, that is still unbeaten in 2018.
“It’s good to get some recognition and it shows that there are people out there that know we’re a good team,” Geerts said. “Does it change how we go out and play or how we practice? Absolutely not."
