Chickasaw girls roll in opener

Lead Summary

It may seem a bit strange when one considers the final score of Monday night’s game between Turkey Valley and New Hampton, but both coaches got what they wanted in their season openers.
The Chickasaws’ Chad Pemble saw the balance he believes his team must have this year in New Hampton’s 64-25 victory while the Trojans’ Carla Nymeyer saw plenty of heart and grit from her team that doesn’t have a single senior on the roster.
“We showed that we have a lot of different weapons,” Pemble said, “and that’s going to be a key for us. We have to be balanced, we have to have teams worrying about all five girls on the floor, and tonight, I saw a lot of good things from our girls.”
New Hampton jumped out to a 9 -0 lead in the game’s first three minutes as Maddi Moorman scored four points inside, Lauren Frerichs hit a 3-pointer and Paige Wisner had a basket.
That pretty much set the tone for the night as New Hampton rolled to a 15-3 first quarter lead, extended the advantage to 32-8 at halftime and took a 53-17 lead into the final frame.
