Barbara Ann Carey dies at 68

Barbara Ann Carey, age 68, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at UPH, Allen Memorial Hospital.Barbara was born in New Hampton, on Feb. 8, 1949, the daughter of Donald and Donna (Urness) Waltz. Her family moved to Elk Run Heights when she was young where she attended school graduating from East High School with the class of 1967. Barbara went to Hawkeye Technical College where she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for Schoitz/Covenant in the skilled nursing unit until her retirement in 2007. Barbara married Richard “Bill” Carey on August 18, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nev. Together, they owned B & B Carey Trucking. Barb loved gambling at the Isle Casino, playing cards and BINGO. She was an avid reader and could finish multiple books in a quiet evening at home and she was a lifetime member of the Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Barb enjoyed shopping, mostly for gifts to give to her beloved family and friends.Barb is survived by her mother, Donna Mae Waltz; daughters, Jodi Dolleslager of Evansdale and Amie Flood of Elk Run; 4 grandchildren: Alex, Austin, Sophia and Carey; and two sisters, Becky Wilson and Billie (Dennis) Wroe both of Evansdale.She was preceded in death by her father; husband, Bill; nephew, Dennis Darold Wroe; and her special friend, Harry Granzow.Memorials may be directed to the family.
