Agnes Eileen Nulty dies at 88

  Agnes Eileen (Kelly) Nulty, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Lawler, died on April 27, 2017, at the Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, from complications of a stroke. Funeral Mass was 10 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2017, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Steve Garner, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation was 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a Vigil Service beginning at 4 p.m. Burial: 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Lawler.Agnes was born July 14, 1928, in their home eight miles north of New Hampton. She was the daughter of Matthew and Margaret (Shanley) Kelly and married Thomas Joseph Nulty at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jerico. Agnes was a graduate of New Hampton High School and attended Upper Iowa University, receiving a teaching degree. She then taught at a country school that she attended as a child. She was a loving mother and wife who always made her family a priority. Agnes was well-known for her baking and cooking. She was an excellent host to everyone at her home. Agnes loved desserts, music, dancing, knitting, and crocheting. Agnes and Tom enjoyed dancing at Spillville-Inwood and playing cards. She was employed by Sara Lee in New Hampton, a cook at Turkey Valley Community Schools, drove Winnebagos to destinations, then was a long-haul truck driver with her husband, Tom. They moved to Cedar Rapids in December of 1994 after making a home in Lawler, for over forty years. She was a devout Catholic all of her life.Survivors include her children, Pat (Cindy) Nulty of Ely, Becky (Nulty) Brandt of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Tom (Carol) Nulty of Van Horne, Maureen (Roger) Harvey of Council Bluffs, Mike (Chris) Nulty of Omaha, Nebraska, Teresa (Hugh) Reilly of Seattle, Washington, and Laura (Terry) Hutchens of Temple, Texas; daughter-in-law, Janet Nulty of Hastings, Minnesota; nineteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Kelly of Owatonna, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Tom; daughter, Mary Anne; son, James Raymond; sister, Mary Murray; and brothers, Jim and John Kelly.Agnes’ family would like to thank Dr. Trautman and Dr. Pietras, Beckie (Kelly) Naughton, Sandie Weeks, all her neighbors from 150 Thompson Drive SE, and lifelong friends of Lawler, for their friendship and care.
