Winning in the wind
Two hundred meters into his 4x800 anchor leg at the Waukon Indian Relays Thursday, New Hampton’s Nolan Usher simply followed his game plan.
He zoomed past Decorah’s Hogan Smith to give the Chickasaws the lead, and despite a strong headwind on the backstretch, Usher never gave it up and gave New Hampton its first relay win of the season.
“You know me, I’m going to be aggressive so I want to get out front, get in their heads a little bit and see what happens,” Usher said after anchoring the relay that also included Lance Reicks, Evan Gossling and his younger brother Dylan. “I had the same game plan in the open 800. I just think I’m better out front.”
