Trojans boys pick up win in district opener
It’s almost like the Turkey Valley boys enjoy playing close games, and they had another one in the first round of district action Monday night as they defeated Kee High 60-52.
“Realistically, we’d like to win by more,” said Trojan junior Dylan Reicks, “but these close games help us in the long run. Coming in we knew this would be a dog fight, the first round in districts, everyone’s going to be playing at a high level.”
The teams split during the season, and when Reicks hit a basket with 6:20 left in the first half, the score was tied at 18 and another barnburner was in progress.
Garrett Kurtenbach, who has been hot from long range lately, drove inside for a pair of baskets to help the Trojans to a 29-22 halftime lead, but when senior leader Kalvin Langreck went out of the game with four fouls early in the second half, the lead shrank to one, 33-32.
