Trojan girls turn up the pressure to beat Chickasaws
Fire and ice.
Ali Hoffert has both of those extreme temperatures clearly under control.
In a free-throw shooting contest, bet on Hoffert's velvety touch every time.
When the pressure is on, the Turkey Valley standout proved she's got ice running through her veins and can take her hot shooting from the charity stripe to another level.
“I think she likes being in that position, when the game does come to an end like that. She likes to have that situation. She’s not afraid of it,” said Turkey Valley head coach Carla Nymeyer.
Hoffert was on fire from the free-throw line in her Trojans' season-opening win over area rival New Hampton on Monday, Nov. 30. She sank all 10 of her fourth-quarter free throws and lit up the scoreboard with 16 fourth-quarter points. That helped TV pull away for a 48-40 win in a contest often reminiscent of many first games of the season for area girls or boys hoops squads across the state.
Let's just say that there were many passes out on the floor that didn't find their mark and plenty of traveling violations in a game that was physical from the start.
“It was a kind of chaotic game. They do a nice job of pressuring the ball,” said New Hampton head coach Chad Pemble. “It was a physical game. I thought we played hard, really hard. It came down to some execution things, which our inexperience showed up.”
