Trapshooters look to reload again
After another successful year of trapshooting last season when New Hampton ended with a top 10 finish at state, Jay Matthews, who is part of what he calls a “team of coaches,” said the team hopes to build on this prosperity heading into 2019.
Matthews has always enjoyed trapshooting and participated in it while in college at Iowa State.
“It’s always been real fun to me,” he said. “Just helping out the kids and doing whatever I can to help them be better.”
The Chickasaws have a total of 35 students partaking in trapshooting this year, up from the 33 members they had during 2018. Matthews credits the consistent large numbers of trap shooters to the culture of fun and safety they have in the program.
