Super sectional
It was one match during a long day of wrestling, but not only did it energize New Hampton/Turkey Valley Saturday, it told the story of a Class 2A sectional tournament that was simply stupendous for the Chickasaws.
Late in the 132-pound semifinal, New Hampton/Turkey Valley’s Brayden Anderson was on the wrong end of a 7-3 score with Crestwood’s Hunter Fousek, who had already beaten the Chickasaw junior twice this season.
And then lightning struck as Anderson took Fousek to his back and pinned him with one second left on the clock.
“We tell guys all the time you just got to keep fighting no matter what,” New Hampton/Turkey Valley co-coach Matt Paulus said. “If there is time on the clock, you can win a match no matter what the score is. And Brayden, that kid fights, probably more than anyone I know. It’s well-deserved.”
And that was the story of the Chickasaws on this day as they crowned seven champions, earned three runner-up positions and piled up 243.5 points to win the team title over Crestwood by 15 1/2 points.
