Seniors combine for three Chickasaw wins
New Hampton coach Scott Freirichs has seen him do it before so he wasn’t surprised in the least that Nolan Usher held off Charles City’s Nick Litterer to win the 800-meter run at Monday’s Decorah Relays.
Usher picked up the win by less than three-10ths of a second, and although Usher’s time wasn’t a season-best — blame a brutal headwind on the back stretch — it was enough for Frerichs to sing his praises.
“We’ve seen him do it before, but he held off a good kid and gave us another gutsy race,” Frerichs said. “It was nice to see him go out and get that win. He’s one of our leaders and the grit he showed on the track is one of the reasons why.”
