Before last summer, Claire Quirk had never stepped on a wrestling mat … or at least she had never wrestled on one.
Now, she’s in the history books.
The New Hampton/Turkey Valley junior became the first state placewinner in school history as she brought home a third-place medal from the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association girls state tournament.
And she did it in impressive style — dropping her first match and then reeling off seven straight wins.
