Residents get a nice surprise from officer

New Hampton Police Officer Chad McGee got a few strange looks, but, then again, he was expecting them.“I pulled three people over and when I got to their car, they had that ‘I-have-no-idea-what-I-did look on their face,” McGee said.And the conversation went something like this:McGee: Do you know what a 312995 violation is?Driver: Um ... no.McGee: You need to have ice cream on a hot day like this.And with that, he handed the motorist an ice cream treat and sent her on her way.All told, McGee handed out 40 ice cream treats — purchased out of his own pocket by the way — during his recent “sting” operation.“He called me and told me what he wanted to do and I thought it was a great idea,” New Hampton Police Chief Mike Anderson said. “Heck, I was wishing he had pulled me over.”McGee got the idea on social media, where he saw a video of a police officer handing out free ice cream.For the complete story see the 8/16/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
