Putting a streak together
Nashua-Plainfield softball coach Hannah Holthaus put it bluntly: Her Huskies couldn’t let this one get away.
After falling to Class 3A ranked New Hampton, giving up seven eighth-inning runs against Forest City and then playing poorly against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, the Huskies had just seen Belmond-Klemme score two seventh-inning runs Friday to tie the game at three.
“We needed that game so bad,” she said. “We lose there after leading the whole game, and maybe the girls start letting the season get away from them.”
Instead, the Huskies righted the proverbial ship to score a run to beat the Broncos and start a three-game winning streak, Nashua-Plainfield’s longest since 2013.
Meghan Wright started the rally when she was hit by a pitch. She then stole second, moved to third on a Toyia Griffin flyout and scored the game-winning run on a solid single off the bat of Sydney Hansen.
