One tough ending

Lead Summary

It was obvious from the opening serve that every point was going to matter in the Class 3A regional final match between No. 6 New Hampton and No. 7 Mount Vernon. The stands were packed, and it was an electric atmosphere for this contest that was played at Jesup High School.
Each set between the two teams was close, and it took all five frames to determine the winner. Unfortunately for the Chickasaws, their dream of making it back to the state tournament for the second straight year was cut short, as the Mustangs edged out a 15-12 victory in the final set to punch their ticket to state.
“It’s really tough. We didn’t really expect this, and this isn’t what anybody wanted,” senior Paige Laures said. “But I’m super proud of my team for staying together and staying positive this whole season. It’s been a good run.”
