New Hampton routs Forest City in district opener

If New Hampton football fans had concerns about a possible “letdown” after an emotional homecoming win over Waverly-Shell Rock last week. the Chickasaws put them to rest early in their Class 2A, District 3 opener.
The Chickasaws jumped out to an early 23-0 lead and completely dominated Forest City in a 43-7 victory.
New Hampton outgained the Indians 327-120 as it improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in district play.
Carter Ferrie opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run and then caught a pass from Mason Lane on a two-point conversion with 4:27 left in the first quarter.
Ferrie’s 4-yard touchdown run and another Lane-to-Ferrie two-point pass made it 16-0 barely a minute into the second quarter, and Ferrie’s 63-yard run set up Ryan Pickar’s 4-yard touchdown run to make it 23-0 with 4:48 left in the first half.
Up 23-7 at halftime, New Hampton put the game away on its first drive of the second half as the Chickasaws marched 70 yards in 16 plays — taking almost nine minutes off the clock — and Evan Rosonke capped the drive with a 12-yard touchdown run to make it 30-7.
New Hampton would add two touchdowns in the fourth quarter — the first on a Rosonke 1-yard plunge and the second on an Avery Throndson 16-yard scamper — to close out the scoring.
Ferrie unofficially finished with 159 yards on 29 carries while Rosonke added 56 yards on 11 rushes as New Hampton, a week after gaining just 18 yards on the ground, rushed for 289 yards.
The Chickasaws will play at Iowa Falls-Alden next Friday.
