New Hampton just one win away from state

The Chickasaw softball team is officially one game away from playing in the state tournament at Fort Dodge.
They picked up victories in the regional quarterfinal over Forest City and the regional semifinal against Iowa Falls-Alden. However, neither of these wins came easy.
Against Forest City Wednesday evening, New Hampton trailed 5-2 heading into the fifth inning. The Chickasaws put together a two-run fifth inning and a monstrous sixth inning in which they plated eight runs to take a 12-5 lead. The Indians would only be able to score one run in the seventh, as New Hampton won 12-6.
Maddi Moorman led the way at the plate with three of the Chickasaws’ fifteen hits. Her trio of hits included a home run along with a double. Kerigan Tenge, Alexa Wemark, Sadie Tenge and Rachel Rinken also had multi-hit games.
The Tenge duo of Kerigan and Sadie combined to allow just four hits and two earned runs on the mound in this contest.
New Hampton found themselves in a battle once again on Friday night in the matchup with Iowa Falls-Aldean. The game was tied at 4-4 heading into the fourth inning. Just like in the regional opener, the Chickasaws rallied, as they posted a four runs in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead - a score that would become the final.
Sadie Tenge pitched all seven innings and allocated seven hits.
Offensively, New Hampton capitalized on Iowa Falls-Aldean errors, plating the eight runs on just six hits.
The Chickasaws - ranked as the No. 15 team in Class 3A - travel to Waterloo on Monday for the regional final game. They will square off against No. 6 Waterloo Columbus Catholic beginning at 7 p.m.
