Nashua City Council reaffirms its decision on Highway 346

Lead Summary

The Nashua City Council agreed Monday night to an Iowa Department of Transportation plan to transition a stretch of Sample Street from a four-lane roadway to one that has three lanes.DOT Assistant District Engineer David Little had visited with the City Council this past October, but because of the large number of changes to the council, Little returned Monday to make sure Nashua was still on board with the plan.Little explained that the crash rate for Sample, which is also known as Highway 346 is 25 percent higher than the statewide average for roads its size and with its traffic patterns. The change would mean a turning lane would be placed in the middle of the road, and Little also said there would be two pedestrian crossing areas added to the stretch of road.A possible bike lane was discussed and would be an option for the city.
